Description

A glittery Seahorse to match the glittery "Fish Splash" piece, also in my Portfolio! You can see it under the album Mermaids and Magical Fantasy.
This original photo of a seahorse ornament, covered in aqua glitter, becomes the subject of a fantasy piece full of additional digipainting layers and hand painted artography. The curved "hair piece" at the top of the mane, is hand painted with a "push tool" that spreads digital paint like a smudge or palette knife application. Seahorses have up to 2,000 babies at once with the father carrying the pregnant pouch on his stomach 10-25 days, depending on the variety. This is a blend of mediums beginning with an inspired photograph that takes on new properties, design, and style, to become the final intended piece. Seahorse is the name given to 54 species of small marine fishes in the genus Hippocampus. "Hippocampus" comes from the Ancient Greek word hippos meaning "horse" and kampos meaning "sea monster".
Seahorses are mainly found in shallow tropical and temperate waters throughout the world, from about 45°S to 45°N and live in sheltered areas such as seagrass beds, estuaries, coral reefs, or mangroves. Four species are found in Pacific waters from North America to South America.
The most endangered seahorse is the Cape seashore (Hippocampus capensis) endemic to South Africa. This species has a restricted and fragmented distribution, only known in a few estuaries. Its habitat is threatened by development and water pollution.
