My favorite sunset shot capturing a rise in a huge field full of lupines and Indian paintbrush flowers. The middle row stands out as a silhouette against the setting Texas sunlight. Soft focus in the foreground demonstrates a focal plane shooting through the flowers at ground level. This persective aims for the top of the little rise in the field. I enhanced the glow on the flowers from the sun to lend an ethereal presence.
April in Texas is a treat. Bluebonnets are members of the Lupine family, in a royal blue color that shows up very dramatically when contrasted with red and orange wildflowers. These contrasting wildflowers are called Indian paintbrush, included alongside the lupines. The image is 2896.00 x 1651.00 and shot with a NIKON D 3000.
Lupinus Texenisis, also called: Wolf flower, Texas lupine, Buffalo Clover, Texas bluebonnet.
The TEXAS lupine has larger, more sharply pointed leaves and more numerous flower heads than similar lupines. Light-green, velvety, palmately compound leaves (usually five leaflets) are borne from branching, 6-18 inch stems. These stems are topped by clusters of up to 50 fragrant, blue, pea-like flowers. The tip of the cluster is conspicuously white. This is the species often planted by highway departments and garden clubs and is one of the six Lupinus species which are collectively designated the STATE FLOWER OF TEXAS.
