This mermaid began as a watercolor I first drew on watercolor paper and was then enhanced photographically into a mix of acrylic and digital paints, a true mixed media. She wears a legendary lotus in her hair, sitting with her bare back to the scene's front view.

What is ARTOGRAPHY:
ARTography combines photography with digital painting to create a different final piece. I coined the term Artography in 2009 for the process that blends photography, pigment art, and digital paint as media of its own. I love the many ways imagery and varying modes of painting, drawing, and re-imagining can be brought fully to a canvas, actual or virtual.

"Mermaids entered European mythology with conflicting (characteristics). Sometimes they were portrayed as beautiful, seductive maidens, almost goddesses like Atargatis or Venus, greatly desired by lonely sailors, while also being cast as siren-esque (creatures of evil) that dragged men into the inky-black depths. Mermaids found their way deep into the nautical lore of the Middle Ages onward. In legend, it was best to avoid mermaids and mermen, just to be sure. Olaus Magnus, the 16th century writer and cartographer whose seminal map, Carta Marina, obsessively cataloged the many monsters of the seas around Scandinavia, noted that fishermen [should] 'maintain that if you reel in a mermaid or merman, and do not presently let them go, such a cruel tempest will arise, and such a horrid lamentation of that sort of men comes with it, and of some other monsters joining with them, that you would think the sky should fall'.
Sea-people, it was widely held, were terribly bad luck to see or snag."
Seductive, sensuous creatures, mermaids are one of many female legends but singly seem to capture the viewer by being half nude and alluring. In art, even implied nudity with semi covered breasts, are a hint at the sensual nature of a mermaid.
Many Mer lovers are very particular about the various views of their subjects. Some often like to have feedback, helping suggest colors and other ideas. In my 'Work in progress' on Facebook, they suggest anything from hair color, bare breast/covered, how it might be made into a tattoo, and tail fluke (fins) designs! Oh to be a real Mermaid!
